2024/05/28

ITTO Executive Director Sheam Satkuru paid a courtesy visit to JICA’s headquarters in Tokyo on 27 May 2024 to greet JICA President Dr Tanaka Akihiko and discuss continued collaboration between both organizations based on the Memorandum of Cooperation signed in October 2022.

The focus of the conversation was on the crucial role of sustainably managed tropical forests for sustainable development and for addressing global challenges including biodiversity loss, climate-change mitigation and adaptation and poverty alleviation.
Both parties agreed to hold further technical discussions for identifying opportunities to strengthen the existing collaboration in the build-up to the upcoming sixteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference and the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development led by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and to be held in Yokohama in August 2025.
The collaboration between ITTO and JICA dates back to 2010.
