  • New training module on legal and sustainable supply chains in Congo Basin

    ITTO has released a new training module on legal and sustainable supply chains tailored for the Congo Basin. The module, the outcome of an activity funded by the Government of Japan, consolidates four training modules developed previously at the global level. It has already been used in national training workshops in the five Congo Basin countries (available in French only).

  • Training modules on legal and sustainable timber supply chains in the Congo Basin

    Four training modules on legal and sustainable tropical timber supply chains in the Congo Basin have been produced in cooperation with the Network of Forestry and Environmental Training Institutions in Central Africa (Réseau des Institutions de Formation Forestière et Environnementale en Afrique Centrale) (RIFFEAC) with the aim of expanding market access for tropical timber produced in the subregion and increasing the contributions of the sector to sustainable development, climate-change mitigation and other challenges. The modules are adapted to conditions in the Congo Basin and are: 1) Understanding “zero deforestation”; 2) Assessing legality and achieving accountability; 3) From legality to sustainability and 4) Markets and market access. The modules, which are an output of ITTO’s Legal and Sustainable Supply Chains Programme, are available in English, French and Spanish.

  • ITTO experiences on due diligence in tropical forests

    This is a presentation on ITTO's recent work in promoting tropical timber identification, timber tracking and due diligence on sustainable forest management across the tropics. The presentation was given by ITTO Director of Operations, Sheam Satkuru at the webinar: “De-risking agriculture supply chains–Including forests in due diligence processes” which took place on 22 September 2021.

    Forest landscape restoration is a multifaceted endeavour that must improve local livelihoods to succeed, according to participants at a webinar for Central America and Mexico co-hosted by ITTO and the Tropical Agricultural Centre for Research and Education (CATIE) on 19 August 2021. The webinar was the first of a planned series of training events worldwide on forest landscape restoration (FLR) designed to increase awareness and understanding of ITTO’s Guidelines for Forest Landscape Restoration in the Tropics, which were published in 2020.   • Key elements of successful forest landscape restoration in Asia-Pacific—workshop

    Creating sustainable livelihood opportunities and obtaining the buy-in of local people through inclusive approaches are key for successful forest landscape restoration, according to participants at a virtual workshop for the Asia-Pacific region co-convened by ITTO and the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO). The AFoCO–ITTO Online Workshop on Forest Landscape Restoration in the Asia-Pacific Region took place from 30 August to 3 September 2021. It was the second in a series of training events worldwide on forest landscape restoration (FLR) designed to increase awareness and understanding of ITTO’s Guidelines for Forest Landscape Restoration in the Tropics, published in 2020.   • Introduction to the online learning course on Legal and Sustainable Supply Chains (LSSC)

    This video animation introduces the online learning course on “Legal and Sustainable Supply Chains” (LSSC) launched in June 2021. It highlights the course offerings of the LSSC course, which is part of the Global Forest Education Project—a joint initiative of ITTO, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the International Union of Forest Research Organizations.

    Outreach and strategies for income diversification and monitoring are crucial for fostering landscape restoration in Latin America and the Caribbean, according to participants at a recent webinar co-hosted by ITTO and the Tropical Agricultural Centre for Research and Education (CATIE). The webinar, which was held on 23 September 2021, was the third in a planned series of training events worldwide on forest landscape restoration (FLR) designed to increase awareness and understanding of ITTO’s Guidelines for Forest Landscape Restoration in the Tropics.
