The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), led by Executive Director Sheam Satkuru, underscored the key message of the 2025 World Wood Day Symposium, celebrating the vital role of forests and wood in building a sustainable future for humanity. The event was held in conjunction with the International Symposium on Wood Science and Technology (ISWST) in Sendai, Japan.

Delivering a guest address at the ISWST opening ceremony on 18 March, Ms Satkuru highlighted the transformative potential of a sustainably managed forestry sector. She emphasized its ability to drive economic growth, conserve biodiversity, create sustainable jobs, and support the livelihoods of millions, particularly in tropical forest regions.
