ITTO officers Jean Christophe Claudon, Kanako Ishii and Ramon Carrillo delivered a lecture on wood use in Japan to around 44 students at the Yokohama Science Frontier High School on 17 March 2023.

The lecture highlighted how wood is present in the daily lives of the students; explained the difference between softwood and hardwood and the qualities of tropical timber; explored the major industrial wood uses in Japan—including specific uses for tropical plywood (a major import for Japan); discussed future wood demand in Japan; and spoke about the linkages between international tropical timber trade, sustainable tropical forest management, and the Sustainable Development Goals.
