ITTO participated in the Yokohama Biodiversity Festival, organized by the City of Yokohama during the closing session of the International Youth Conference on Biodiversity on Saturday 31 August 2024.

The event took place at the North Exhibition Hall of Pacifico Yokohama. ITTO showcased an exhibition booth and conducted two origami workshops, each accommodating about 20 participants, which were fully attended. Renowned origami artist Mr Kaito Nagayama led the workshops.

The origami workshop included an introduction to the history and work of ITTO in promoting sustainable forest management across the tropics and its impacts in biodiversity conservation. It also informed participants about the organization being headquartered in Yokohama for almost 40 years.

Workshop participants learnt that 75% of wild animals and plants inhabit these forests and the key role that sustainable forestry plays in their conservation. At the end of the workshop participants folded a frog, a common animal found in forests across the world, synonymous of a healthy ecosystem.

ITTO's participation raised awareness among visitors to the event on the importance of sustainably manage tropical forest for biodiversity conservation.
