The sustainable consumption of tropical forest products is an important nature-based solution to climate change, according to ITTO Executive Director Sheam Satkuru. She was speaking at an event on 18 November 2022 in the Japan Pavilion on the sidelines of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
The event, “Nature-based Solutions in Forest Sector to Promote Mitigation and Adaptation against Climate Change”, also discussed a project underway in Cambodia’s Prey Lang Wildlife Sanctuary under the Japan Crediting Mechanism; ITTO projects on fire management in Indonesia and Peru; and the role of forests in mitigating disasters such as flooding and shallow landslides and enabling communities to adapt to climate change.
