Summary
This 2-year project will collect and make available information on the production, trade and utilization on non-wood forest products (bamboo, rattan, palms, vines, bast fibers, almaciga resin, etc.) in two selected forest aras in the Philippines (western Samar and Luzon). The project will also provide information on the regeneration pattern and cycle of important non-wood forest products, and sustainable-yield collection practices will be recommended to local communities. The project will also identify problems forest dwellers face in their trade and recommend and introduce appropriate improved methods of collection, processing and storage. The project will prepare a comprehensive report relating the collection, processing, utilization and trade of non-wood forest products to sustainable forest management, based on the assessments made in the two selected areas under study.
