Improvements are needed in forest planning in the Amazon to select trees for harvesting based on clear criteria, provide more control, and enable companies to obtain timely approvals for their operations. The Brazilian agricultural research agency EMBRAPA, under an ITTO project, has developed BomManejo, a software tool to assist forest managers in preparing sustainable forest management plans.
