National Teak Forum
Sustainable Teak Value Chains for Sustainable Local Development

National Teak Forum

Date & venue: 19–20 February 2020, Vientiane & Luang Pha, Lao PDR

Teak is a native species in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, with natural teak forest covering an estimated 68 500 hectares. Moreover, teak plantations established by the private sector and rural communities cover about 36 000 hectares, mainly in the provinces of Luang Prabang and Boeko.

This forum, supported by ITTO and Germany’s Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, will review opportunities and challenges for sustainable teak value chains in Lao PDR, with a view to contributing to sustainable forest-based development among smallholders in the country’s lower Mekong.
