ITTO Capacity Building Training Workshops for Project Formulation

ITTO is planning to organize the Capacity Building Training Workshops for Project Formulation in accordance with the Decision 5(XLIV) adopted at the Forty-fourth Session of the ITTC and as part of on-going efforts to promote high quality projects that facilitate the conservation and sustainable management, use and trade of tropical forest resources. The following are venues and schedule of the forthcoming workshops:

  1. Chiang Mai,Thailand, 20-24 April 2009 (Asia-Pacific Region, in English)
  2. Libreville, Gabon, 27 April-1 May 2009 (African Region, in French)
  3. Guatemala City, Guatemala, 12-16 May 2009 (Latin America & Caribbean Region, in Spanish)
  4. Ibadan, Nigeria, 11-15 May 2009 (TBC) (English-speaking member countries in Africa and Latin America & Caribbean Regions, in English)

The training workshops are aimed at making those who have the responsibility of preparing project or pre-project proposals to be submitted to the ITTO fully familiar with the use of the revised manual as well other relevant ITTO’s manuals and guidelines. The objectives are to:

  • · Gain knowledge of the content of the manuals and guidelines, through presentation and practicing of methods and instruments of project planning and evaluation on the basis of the revised ITTO manuals and guidelines;
  • · Promote excellence in project design particularly focusing on problem analysis, stakeholder analysis, and logical framework matrix
  • · Develop a favorable attitude and necessary skills to correctly apply the knowledge, through analysis of and discussion on the presented know-how, methods and instruments and on the basis of proper experiences made by the participants; and
  • · Develop training skills by exposure to innovative pedagogical methods used throughout the workshop.

The training workshops will be conducted in different regions and languages over five-days and will have around 20 participants from member countries in each of the training workshops. After attending the training workshop, participants are expected to make use of and follow up on the outcomes and knowledge gained through the training workshop in their respective countries.

ITTO Official Contact Points in respective member countries will receive an invitation letter from the ITTO Secretariat. Nomination of participants in the workshops should be arranged through the ITTO Official Contact Points and accepted nominees will be encouraged to bring a draft proposal or idea to the workshop for its further development.The training workshops are focused on nominees from ITTO member countries. However, interested persons who can participate with own costs arrangements are all encouraged to contact ITTO. Acceptance will be provided based on qualification of the applicants and the possibility of accommodating additional participants in each workshop.
