Native community timber tracking systems in Peru

Native communities and small and medium forest enterprises (SMEs) operating in the Peruvian Amazon departments of Madre de Dios and Ucayali are aware of the need to demonstrate the legal origin of their timber as part of market requirements and to comply with the recently approved Peruvian forest law. The ITTO funded project PD 621/11 Rev.3 (M), implemented by the Peruvian National Chamber of Forestry, has developed a timber tracking system which is now being used by SMEs and native communities in these regions.
