Malaysia establishes Freezailah Forest Sustainability Award

30 December 2016

Aimed at inspiring a new generation of forestry talents, the Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) recently presented its inaugural MTCC Freezailah Forest Sustainability Award to an undergraduate from the Faculty of Science and Natural Resources, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).
The new MTCC academic award is named in honor of MTCC’s founding Chairman, and ITTO’s founding Executive Director – Dato’ Dr Freezailah Che Yeom, who led ITTO from 1986 to 1999. The MTCC award joins the ITTO Fellowship Program’s “Freezailah Fellowship Fund” (which promotes human resource development to strengthen professional expertise in member countries in the field of tropical forestry and related disciplines) in paying tribute to this eminent forester.
Dr. Freezailah retired from MTCC this year after leading the organization for 17 years.
