Global warming is real and is happening all around the world. While carbon gas emitted from factories and vehicles amount to 14% each of carbon gas emissions, an astonishing amount of 20% of all carbon gasses come from the destruction of forests around the world. The rate of deforestation is an alarming 4,000 square-meters per second. The destruction of tropical forests is the main cause of global warming and in effect, biodiversity is lost at a very fast pace as well.
The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) is a UN Treaty-based Organization that tackles these very issues that relate to tropical forests. In order to appeal for the worsening situation of global warming and the loss of biodiversity, ITTO is launching a new educational program about the tropical forest crisis for school children all over the world. Today's environmental problems are rooted in modern values in which development is more valued than the environment. Tropical forest conservation is the most important issue to consider when addressing environmental problems. Teaching its importance to children is effective in pursuing a balance between environment and development. The education system in each country is established by the respective government and targets different objectives. However, everyone shares the same environment, and it is necessary to educate the children of the world together to achieve a common goal: To conserve the tropical forests for a healthy environment.
