Beyond Carbon—Realizing Untapped Potential of Forests to Combat Climate Change (CPF event at UNFCCC COP 28)

Beyond Carbon—Realizing Untapped Potential of Forests to Combat Climate Change (CPF event at UNFCCC COP 28)

Date & venue: 9 December 2023 (15:15–16:00 hrs), UNEP pavilion (Blue Zone, Opportunity Petal, Thematic Arena 4), Expo City Dubai, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

From lowering temperatures to providing renewable materials, livelihoods and employment, the world’s forests play a larger role than just cutting carbon emissions to combat climate change. Despite the enormous untapped potential that all types of forests hold, much of the attention in climate policy, including climate finance, has to date focused on the potential of forests in carbon storage and removal, particularly in the tropics.

The event will provide an opportunity for the participating members of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests to share their best practices and case studies on capturing the full values of forests, the productive functions of forests and the potential of renewable materials and green jobs.
