New York, USA, 8 May 2024: Fire looms as an increasing threat to tropical forests and has become a universal problem, and countries need financial and political support to implement integrated fire management, ITTO Executive Director Sheam Satkuru told at a side-event during the 19th Session of the United Nations Forum on Forests, which is taking place this week at UN headquarters in New York.

25 April 2024: Applying good science and technologies can help maintain social and political support for sustainable development, including policies and practices that foster sustainable forest management and the sustainable trade of forest products. This edition of the TFU shows how science and technology, embedded in ITTO’s work, can enable members to scale up forest solutions.

22 April 2024: Forest landscape restoration is essential for ensuring that tropical forests can perform their crucial planetary roles, said ITTO Executive Director Sheam Satkuru to mark International Mother Earth Day, which celebrates the concept of Mother Earth and the interdependence that exists among human beings, other living species and the planet.  

16 April 2024: After a sluggish start globally in January and February, timber markets in some countries hit positive territory in March 2024 and orders were up in most pilot countries, according to the latest edition of the Global Timber Index (GTI) Report, released today. The ITTO-supported GTI tracks the timber sectors in eight pilot countries.

10 April 2024: The Green Climate Fund (GCF) Board, meeting in Kigali, Rwanda, at its 38th session, approved ITTO’s accreditation application on 5 March 2024, signifying that ITTO is now a GCF Accredited Entity (AE) and fully meets the GCF’s requirements, especially its specialized fiduciary standard for project management.

29 March 2024: ITTO Executive Director Sheam Satkuru asserted at an international event, jointly organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Union of Forest Research Organizations that there are several opportunities to continue working with countries to further develop sustainable wood supply chains in the tropics as important means for achieving society-wide carbon neutrality.
