International Symposium on the Promotion of Deforestation-Free Global Supply Chains for Contributing to Halt Deforestation

Date & venue: 23–24 January 2018, Mita Hall, Tokyo, Japan


The objective of the event is to inform participants on the status of the implementation New York [2015] global zero deforestation commitments, to facilitate wider publication of good practices including by private sector in Japan toward the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Aichi Biodiversity targets, and to provide an opportunity scaling up zero-deforestation activities by a wide range of sectors toward the shared goal of halting deforestation by 2020.
 
The outcome of the event will feed into the International Conference “Halting Deforestation and Increasing Forest Area – from Aspiration to Action” which will be held in February in Rome under the auspices of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and other members of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF).

The event is organized by the Forestry Agency of Japan in cooperation with the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and other partners.
