Summary
The objective of the project is to promote multiple use management of the tropical forests of Sarawak by means of pilot and demonstration projects. The objective of the pre-project activity is to study most of the deforested land in Sarawak in order to find the most effective site for pilot projects, to gather relevant information on each of these areas, and then to prepare a draft project proposal.
In this project, three pilot activities are proposed for promoting,sustainable multiple use:
- reforestation of areas adjacent to existing communities devastated by shifting cultivation;
- pilot activities for the gainful employment of local inhabitants to produce food for their own needs, and other activities to generate cash income, through agro-forestry; and
- the planting of Rattan.

The Project Proposal was revised by the Council in May/June 1993 and recommended to the Europian Union for possible funding. A review mission by the Europian Union in Nov./Dec. 1994 did not lead to funding and the Project was later abandonned.
