Summary
The project is designed to develop demonstration models for forest management within an area of 800 ha in the province of Esmeraldas. In this purpose, the project is composed of 5 elements:
a) Conservation in-situ and ex-situ: 250 ha;
b) Natural regeneration improvement of forests under selective cutting;
c) Forest plantation, species introduction essays, provenance studies and native species arboreta: 200 ha;
d) Rehabilitation of suitable soils with forest aptitude: 150 ha;
e) Extension and evaluation.
The information and data collected by the project and the models developed during the project will contribute to the promotion of the sustainable utilization of forests. They will provide a regional demonstration that silvicultural activities, forest utilization, protection and preservation are complementary, achievable, and sustainable.
