Summary |
This project will focus on promoting the use of lesser-known species (LKS) in the plywood industry, mainly as core veneers. Species from both low-lying (varizas) and high altitude areas will be tested in production runs in two plywood mills. The trial panels will be analyzed and compared with commercial ones. The physical and mechanical properties and other quality aspects will be assessed in laboratories of existing research institutes. The work will also include an economic evaluation of the feasibility of using LKS for veneer and plywood manufacturing. The result of the project will be a list of LKS which can be used as core veneer in the Amazonian plywood industry. The list will be published with a report on the properties of each of the species studied.
