Summary
Non-timber forest products (NTFPs) integrated into reforestation programmes can provide sustainable income to moti-vate 128,000 inhabitants at Atwima Mponua forest communities to manage forest plantations. Unfortunately, the farm-ers lack forest and land resources rights, forest business skills and NTFP technologies to undertake commercially viable NTFPs production within forest plantations. Our development goal is to establish sustainable Community Forest Man-agement and Enterprises (CFME) to reduce rural poverty through improved livelihood options, reduced land degrada-tion, and soil fertility management in young reforestation area in the project region.

The project activities aim to use participatory approach to initiate and establish pilot forest enterprises for short to long term management of young forest plantations for 150 farmers using beekeeping, Grains of Paradise and Black pepper. At the end of the project, the 150 forest dwellers co-operating with the project will have between the parties agreed legal rights to the land and forest resource which the manage. And, they belong to one or two forest business management groups. This will help improve community participation in sustainable forest management, enhance livelihoods, pro-mote community based forest enterprises and reduce poverty among Taungya farmers and forest communities.
