ITTO at UNFCCC COP24 – Restoring degraded tropical forests: reconciling carbon, biodiversity and community resilience
ITTO at UNFCCC COP24 – Restoring degraded tropical forests: reconciling carbon, biodiversity and community resilience
Date & venue: 13 December 2018, Katowice, Poland
It is estimated that forest degradation is responsible for more carbon losses than deforestation. Reducing degradation and restoring degraded tropical landscapes, on the other hand, offer considerable opportunities. Policy changes are needed to incentivize forest restoration and good forest practices and thereby reconcile community resilience, biodiversity conservation and climate-change mitigation.
