Latin America: Regional Launch of ITTO Tropical Integrated Fire Management Toolkit (TIFM)

Tropical forest fires pose a growing threat to lives, livelihoods, and ecosystems across Asia, Latin America, and Africa. Recent decades have seen previously fire-resistant tropical ecosystems suffer devastating burns, largely driven by rapid land-use change and climate-driven droughts. These phenomena are increasingly leading to significant CO2 emissions, forest degradation, biodiversity loss, and compounded socio-economic and health impacts. Despite a wealth of scientific and traditional knowledge, tools, strategies, and case studies on tropical forest fire, much of this information remains fragmented, unknown, or difficult to access for decision-makers, land managers, and communities.
In response, the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) is pleased to launch the first online clearing house of open-source resources on Integrated Fire Management system dedicated to tropical forests.
The Tropical Integrated Fire Management (TIFM) Toolkit serves as a centralized clearing house of curating existing tropical fire knowledge resources, technical guidelines, and decision-support tools without duplicating existing efforts. Crucially, the toolkit is designed to provide actionable, practical support on the ground—enabling frontline managers, policymakers, and communities to quickly and easily search, access, and implement vital fire management resources in real time.
By bridging critical knowledge gaps and building on-the-ground technical capacity, the TIFM Toolkit marks a transformative step forward in promoting best practices and safeguarding invaluable tropical forest landscapes.
This webinar will officially launch the ITTO Tropical Integrated Fire Management in Latin America.
Attendees will gain knowledge of the TIFM Toolkit's practical application and a review of its curated guidelines and tools for fire management challenges.
