Vietnam Accedes to the ITTA, 2006

The Government of Vietnam acceded to the International Tropical Timber Agreement, 2006, on 10 April 2014 becoming the Sixty-ninth member of the Agreement, in accordance with its Article 39 (4).(1)
 
Vietnam has a forest area of 13.38 million hectares(2) (including 3.5 million hectares of planted forest), which represent almost 41% of its territory.
 
Vietnam is a major producer and exporter of wooden furniture and parts. Its exports valued USD 3.3 billion in 2011 (around 5.6% of the worldwide exports of furniture and parts). Vietnam is also a major importer of tropical industrial roundwood (around 932,000 m3 in 2011) and tropical sawnwood (484,000 m3 in 2011). The bulk of these imports came from Asian neighboring countries such as Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Cambodia and Myanmar.
