The Government of Vietnam acceded to the International Tropical Timber Agreement, 2006, on 10 April 2014 becoming the Sixty-ninth member of the Agreement, in accordance with its Article 39 (4).(1)

Vietnam has a forest area of 13.38 million hectares(2) (including 3.5 million hectares of planted forest), which represent almost 41% of its territory.

Vietnam is a major producer and exporter of wooden furniture and parts. Its exports valued USD 3.3 billion in 2011 (around 5.6% of the worldwide exports of furniture and parts). Vietnam is also a major importer of tropical industrial roundwood (around 932,000 m3 in 2011) and tropical sawnwood (484,000 m3 in 2011).
