V-Legal/FLEGT test shipment conducted by Indonesia

Indonesia has a Voluntary Partnership Agreement with the European Union and has legislated for a Timber Legality Assurance Scheme (TLAS). Indonesian exporters who meet the requirements of the strict legality verification standards in the TLAS can secure a FLEGT licence to satisfy the requirements of the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR).

In order to be fully ready for the EUTR the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry, in cooperation with other Ministries, stakeholders and industry successfully conducted a test shipment from Indonesia to some EU member states of products for which V-Legal documents/ FLEGT-license are mandatory.

We are delighted to once again bring to the tropical timber trade our Tropical Timber Market Report (TTMR), an output of the Market Information Service (MIS).

At its 48th Session the International Tropical Timber Council (ITTC) decided to reinstate funding for the MIS in the Organization’s administrative budget thereby providing a more secure and sustainable funding source for this flagship ITTO publication.

This re-launch of the TTMR has been readily supported by trade analysts and commentators who, over the years, have been providing news and commentary for the bi-monthly TTMR, thank you all.

The suspension of the TTMR in 2011 has meant that there is now a twelve month gap in ITTO’s price database. Over the coming months we will rebuild the database and by mid-year we should be in a position to include price trend indices in the TTMR, a feature of previous reports.

ITTO would like to express its thanks to the ITTC, ITTO members the Trade Advisory Group, readers, company executives and consultants  who have in one way or the other contributed to the re-launch of the TTMR under the MIS.
